Tioga Road Opens on May 18, 2016
Dear Friends
I greet you from Yosemite

The Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park will open for all vehicular traffic tomorrow, Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at noon.

The Tioga Road, bounded on both sides by State Highway 120, is the popular east-west crossing of the Sierra Nevada.

On May 6 at 3:29pm, the above picture was taken of the plowing of the Tioga Road with Lembert Dome in the background! It is a fun little scramble to the top of Lembert Dome!

“Mono County and National Park Service road plowing crews have met just east of Tenaya Lake. However, we still have a lot of work to do before the road can open, including clearing fallen trees and rocks, removing hazard trees, plowing side roads, and plowing the full width of the Tioga Road. We still don't have an estimated opening date,” reported the NPS on May 6.

Driving along the Tioga Road you will pass through Yosemite’s High Sierra, a freshly glaciated and scenic land of lakes, meadows, domes and ragged peaks.

At 9,941 feet Tioga Pass crosses the crest of the Sierra Nevada, the highest automobile pass within the range.

The Tioga Road opens on May 18, 2016!

Plan a wonderful road trip across the Tioga Road into the beauty of Yosemite’s High Country!
