The Glacier Point Road was built in 1882.  For those who did not want to hike or ride a horse up the steep trails, the road was a most welcome idea.  However, the idea of providing a passenger lift to Glacier Point was not a welcomed one!

Although the trail from Nevada Fall to Glacier Point was built in 1885, it was planned as early as 1887, to provide a passenger lift to this famous vantage point.  The plan progressed as far as the making of a primary survey.
