For the fall foliage hike….“If you only have time for one hike in Yosemite, the trail from Happy Isles to the top of Nevada Fall, is the one!”

Spending the entire day hiking this 5.8 mile (roundtrip trail) or taking a short stroll along a part of it ~ is most rewarding.

This hike sums up what Yosemite is all about~massive granite cliffs and waterfalls. Along the trail, there are views of four of the valley’s biggest and best waterfalls.

Illilouette Fall flows down 370 feet from the Panorama Cliff ~view seen at 0.5 mile from trailhead.
Vernal Fall falls down 317 feet as we view it from the bridge ~at 0.8 mile from trailhead.
Nevada Fall falls 594 feet.

Discover the 4th!

As the trail climbs, we watch the Merced River fall over Vernal Fall and then the giant steps of Nevada Fall. The elevation change is 2000 feet along this moderately difficult trail. The approximate hiking time can be from 3 hours to all day!

The trailhead is Happy Isles, the beginning of the John Muir Trail~ a 211 mile trail that ends at Mount Whitney.

Our spirit is lifted as we watch the falling water of the Merced River flow towards Yosemite Valley, where it meanders peacefully.
