The Charms of These Mountains
Dear Friends
I greet you from Yosemite

“The charms of these mountains are beyond all common reason, unexplainable and mysterious as life itself,” wrote John Muir.
The water from above became a “countless host of silvery-netted arteries gleaming everywhere!”

“Many a joyful stream is born in the Sierra, but no one can sing like the Merced. Of sublime Yosemite, she is the voice,” wrote John Muir. One could hear the throbbing of Nature’s loving heartbeat.

The Merced River was “peacefully gliding, reflecting lilies and trees and the onlooking rocks, things frail and fleeting and types of endurance meeting here and blending in countless forms, as if into this one mountain mansion Nature had gathered her choicest treasures, whether great or small, to draw her lovers into close and confiding communion with her.”

On this day, Half Dome, the guardian of the canyon, beamed with beauty. John Muir must have written this description of Half Dome on a day similar to this one, “never did her soul reveal itself more than now.”

The charms of these mountains are to be enjoyed first-hand. They are as mysterious as life itself.
