Lady Bugs
The lady bugs are huddling to keep warm on this chilly autumn day in November along the Merced River. They crowd together on this brittle leaf which had fallen unto the ground. As they nestle closely, our own heart warms to the loveliness of nature.
As they huddle together for warmth, they form an interesting photograph for my iPod to take. We take a long look at the lady bugs settling comfortably together upon the leaf. We count the number of black spots on some of the lady bugs…and notice some do not have any spots at all.
A beetle is an insect of an order distinguished by forewings typically modified into hard wing cases (elytra) that cover and protect the hind wings and abdomen. As kids, we were told it was good luck for a lady bug to land on us! Certainly, it is good for us to have come to the mountains of Yosemite this weekend!
“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.” ~John Muir.
