No Snow, Now Problem

Visitors to Yosemite National Park this winter are in for a real treat. Due to unseasonably low snow levels, the park has frozen over creating a winter landscape that is unlike any previous winter in Yosemite. Skiers and snowboarders may be disappointed by the lack of snow on the slopes at the Badger Pass Ski Area, but don't let low snow levels keep you from enjoying the multitude of other Yosemite winter activities still available. In fact, the lack of snow has created a rare opportunity to do something that has never been possible during winter in Yosemite before – ice skating on Tenaya Lake. Ice Skating is the Perfect Winter Activity Tenaya Lake is usually covered in several feet of snow at this time of year. But this year, thanks to our strange California weather, the lake is frozen over and able to be skated on. Visitors to the lake this winter say the ice is clear and beautiful, and it’s wonderful for skating on. Yosemite ice skating is always available in Curry Village during the winter, but this is the first time in memory that ice skating has been allowed or even possible on Tenaya Lake. The Park Rangers are doing a good job of keeping the road up to the lake safe and clear so visitors can enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime Yosemite experience. Ice skating at Tenaya Lake will last only as long as the snow stays away, so be sure to head up to Yosemite soon to have your chance to skate the lake. Aside from Yosemite ice skating, there are a number of other winter activities that are still available throughout the park this winter without snow. Winter is a great time to hike in Yosemite in order to experience the park at its most quiet and serene. Tours of the park are also available in heated buses throughout the winter, and photography tours are available as well. The winter months also bring a number of annual food and drink festivals to Yosemite National Park that are essential events for foodies. Come taste fine California wines at the Vintner’s Holidays or sample California cuisine at the annual Chef’s Holidays.
