An Entire Lifetime to Enjoy Yosemite
Dear Friends
I greet you from Yosemite

An entire lifetime to enjoy Yosemite and the Yosemite Aster!

The Yosemite Aster belongs to the Sunflower Family. It can be found at the fringes of Yosemite’s meadows and on its forest floors. It also can be found at elevations from 4,000 to 7,000 feet.

The blossom has 20-35 purple ray flowers around yellow disk flowers.

The leaves are slender and lance-like.

The Yosemite Aster’s scientific name is Aster occidentals var. yosemitanus

Aster means star.

occidentals means western.

yosemitanus means of Yosemite.

This species was first collected in 1877, near Vernal Fall by Joseph Hooker and Asa Gray, a Harvard University professor.

It blooms from July to September.

Look around again, it’s not the same old Yosemite.

Let there be rejoicing and gladness every time you discover a beautiful wildflower of Yosemite.

Over 1,500 classified flowering plants, shrubs, and trees grow within Yosemite, at elevations between 2,000 and 13,000 feet. Yosemite’s flowers are a source of delight and inspiration because of their many forms, colors, and habitats. Enjoy early bloomers and late bloomers from early spring to late autumn in beautiful Yosemite.

An entire lifetime to enjoy Yosemite and the Yosemite Aster. Grab a hold of the Yosemite day, do not let it pass you by.
