Stay Inside the Park

Reserving a cabin in the park will not only make your stay more convenient and timesaving. It will also keeping you from driving in an out of the park every day; thus, reducing your carbon footprint. Most Yosemite hotels are located outside the park gates. The long drive in and out of the park not only wastes time, but wastes gasoline that spreads fumes in the beautiful park. Car-pool if you come in a group. Fewer cars coming into the park requires less need for parking lots. This means more of the park’s natural beauty can stay intact.

Biking and Walking

Biking and walking are great for the atmosphere and for taking in the full force of Yosemite’s surroundings. Ride or walk along the park’s paved nature trails and gentle forest footpaths. By keeping car use to a minimum, you will avoid getting caught in traffic jams and pouring any extra air pollution into the park.

Collect Litter

Outside the valley floor, trashcans are rare to find in Yosemite. For this reason, carry a grocery bag or fanny pack to clean up after yourself. Pick up any trash on the trail left by others. If you have kids, make it a game for them to see who can collect the most litter. This will provide them with a fun way to learn a valuable lesson.

Bring Reusable Water Bottles

Bring your own water bottle to cut back on waste and garbage. This will keep you from carrying an excessive amount of bottles on long hikes. In addition, it prevents the chance that you might leave an empty bottle behind. Reusable plastic bottles are not only beneficial for Yosemite, but for any environment. Ecotourism is a healthy and educational approach to a fun family vacation. With these tips, you and your family can be the most “environmentally-friendly” visitors in Yosemite.
