a snapshot of topics coved…

Some history of Ansel... Sharp pictures with bold contrast... Creative photography... Taking pictures from within your heart.. See the beauty... Composition and framing... Remove the chaos... Capture the highlights....the sparkles... On grey days, photograph smaller landscapes... Pre-Visualize the photo you want Need framing, exposure, & dark room to create vision... Rule of thirds.. Leading lines.. Simple elements... Clouds... High Dynamic Range... Histograms...graph averaging the lights & darks... Get the highlights right, let shadows go… darken later... There is plenty of time to take photos during the walk.

And much more...

Yes, photograph the iconic scenes…

Ansel Adams: An Autobiography.. .

Excerpts from…

I highly recommend the book: "Ansel Adams An Autobiography," in which he writes, "I believe in beauty ... I am one with beauty. "

"I now had only two plates left for one of the grandest view-experiences of the Sierra, the face of Half Dome itself. .....I began to think about how the print was to appear, and if it would transmit any of the feeling of the monumental shape before me in terms of its expressive-emotional quality. I began to see in my mind's eye the finished print I desired... The Face of Half Dome.    April 17, 1927

A favorite image is El Capitan, Winter, Sunrise, made in 1968...The greatest glory of Yosemite is witnessed during the dawn following a snowstorm. On this snowy morning....I found El Capitan, the largest single piece of granite in the world, heroically revealed as the clouds and mist flowed about its huge form in wreaths and ribbons. How could I communicate my thoughts to this young man without in any way dulling the bright edge of his enthusiasm?  .... But the right word at the right time can have immense significance, and thus I explained to the young artist the excitement I felt in his attempt as well as the challenges ahead for him. As in Yosemite, I looked for something as simple as a cluster of pine needles or a few pebbles, and instructed them to observe possible relationships of shapes and values.... The art of seeing.”
